After adjusting to life at home as a family of 3.5, the time inevitably came when we would all venture out together. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), we were given the opportunity to have two family outings this weekend.
Saturday was the 5th Annual Austin Bat Fest on the Congress Street bridge. Billed as an event that would be fun for the entire family, we gathered up our stuff and headed out for a "batty" good time.
The afternoon was a colossal failure on a multitude of levels. Nevermind the fact that it was a 100+° outside, the Congress Street bridge is paved in blacktop. Uh...hello??? Who's genius idea was that?? It was so hot that Riley couldn't even walk on the street & had to be carried by Miller while I pushed Audrey in her stroller. We finally managed to find the smallest patch of shade (it wasn't that hard to find, seeing as it was the only place at the event with a crowd) and attempted to have a good time. It wasn't happening (the fun, that is), so we packed up and headed home.
Audrey thought we were crazy for spending the day in the heat.
Today we headed over to a friend's house for "Sunday Funday." Grilling out & spending time in the pool is a much more acceptable way of spending time in these hot-ass Texas summers. Audrey thought it would be more fun to spend the entire day napping, so she spent 90% of the day sleeping inside where the air conditioning was running. (That's my girl!) Because of her slumber, she escaped the wrath of my new camera. (Bummer.)
Riley was a much happier camper today.
Meat. Good.
