85. Try 20 new beers (3-7/20)

This past Friday, Miller & I went to Alamo Draft House to see The Love Guru (more on that later). In an attempt to help complete my 101 Goal (or maybe to just get me drunk & take advantage of me...who knows), we decided to go with a beer cornucopia instead of our typical bucket-o-MillerLite.

Beer #1: Real Ale Devil's Backbone
If I have to drink a Real Ale beer, I'd probably go with the Fireman's #4. BUT, since this is a seasonal release beer Miller decided to give it a shot. The first sip taste was a little strong for my palate, but being a true beer drinker means I have to give it another taste. I can't really put my finger on what I didn't care for about this beer (too much yeast?), but it definitely wasn't my style. After a solid two sips, I politely passed the rest of my beer off to the husband.

Beer #2: Pilsner Urquell
Yum...MUCH better than the Devil's Backbone! "The Original Pilsner" is really quite good. It supposedly has more hops than other pilsner beers, but I didn't really notice the stronger flavor. I thought it was very crisp and clean. After poking around on the internet to get some links/pictures for Pilsner Urquell, I also discovered that they sponsor an International Photography Contest (the photos on their website are AMAZING), and even have a flash game online. FYI - the game is sexist, and totally not work appropriate. It is pretty hilarious though. Consider yourself warned.

Beer #3: Stone IPA
One word: Yuck. Way too much hops and too bitter for my taste. I was done after the first sip. Okay, that was more than one word.

Beer #4: Bavaria
Loved this one and went back for seconds. It was the lightest of the 4 beers I sampled and really complimented my DraftHouse pizza quite nicely. :) It tasted the most like the beers I am used to drinking and is definitely beer I would come back to at another time. Miller also informed me that it is a "cheap" beer in Europe. What is it with me and "cheap" beer???

Beer #5: Yuengling Premium Beer
Okay, so I didn't drink this one on Friday at Alamo. I drank this one weekend on my business trip in New Jersey when Miller came up for a visit. I forgot to blog about drinking this beer because I forgot a lot of stuff about that night. My only review of this beer is that it got me REALLY DRUNK.

Well done. When I drink beer that I've never had, I usually just say "It was good." Or, if I'm feeling particularly descriptive, "It was really good." None of this yeasty, hoppy business! Side note: I LOVE Yuengling. But, I can't find it here. I think the reason I like it is because my cousins from the North would bring cases of it to our family reunion, so it reminds me of the beach. Wow, tangent much
?
Anywy, great recap. Keep 'em coming!

I hate beer, but I'll pass along your comments to my husband. He loves beer and has been on a quest to find a good one so he can replace his beloved Bud Light with something more ..adult. He's enjoying Fireman's Four, but he thinks it messes w/ his ulcer. Hmm, honey, I think it's the beer in general!

More about the Love Guru?? Was it good?
