Africa, oh Africa

So it's been a couple days since my arrival into Tanzania. By the time I arrived it was late Friday night and I had spent the equivalent of 24 hours in a plane. Hooray. After being corralled through customs/immigration & gathering my bags, I met my driver (Naiman) and he drove me to my hotel, the Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary. I honestly couldn't tell you much about the hotel (or even Africa for that matter) since it was pitch black when I arrived. I got settled into my room, had a nervous breakdown, and went to bed.

I was fortunate to have the weekend off and in retrospect it was the best thing since it took me a couple days to get over my jetlag. I managed to get up and eat a couple meals at the hotel restaurant and was quite pleased at how good the food was. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is designed as an animal sanctuary & there is a pretty large area where the animals hang out. They've got a pretty large selection of animals (check out my pics) and it's been pretty neat seeing so many "wild" animals up close & personal.

Everything here is a lot nicer than I imagined it would be in my head. The hotel is a lot cleaner and the food is a lot better so I'm really having a pretty great experience. This weekend I plan to spend Saturday shopping for souviners & "local fare" and on Sunday I'm going to take a scenic flight to get a closer look of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Ngorongoro Crater. It's a pretty unique experience that I'm going to participate in (I had to charter a small airplane to do this) so hopefully I'll get some great pictures & video to share with everyone!!

Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well back home. I miss you all!!
